How We Handle Love

Love
Love is a confusing subject.
Some say it’s the simple things that sew love together.
Others think that the truth is more complex
Love is a wonderous machine that deserves to be glorified
But it leaves me horrified
Mortified.
The way we treat each other
And claim it’s out of love
Could it ever appease a god above?
I think not
I think our actions bind us like an inescapable knot
The way we treat each other
The crimes we commit, one after another.
Love is a sinking ship
Sinking down, down into the deep dark depths
Where sharks and spinefish swim silently,
Sitting in wait for their next meal
Love is a sinking ship
That not all can survive on
And I am determined to get the last life raft.
