Tape.
The tape that binds these mouths of ours.
It sews them shut with imaginary, yet effective, thread.
And it makes the poison build up in our heads.
Passive as more goes in through our ears.
Leaving others oblivious to our fears.
We fear the silence, the mist settling on our skin.
Instead we find loop holes, throwing bread crumbs to the wind.
We laugh as they do, the ones that have no tape.
And they think they understand why we jape and jape and jape.
It’s not because we’re stupid.
Or shallow.
Or fakes.
It’s because laughter covers up the thoughts
That ricochet ‘round our brains.
