When they know your plans,

they send you to the back of the line,

they make you sit on the outside,

they say you can listen,

but you may not speak.

You can keep your plans secret,

you can lie your way through the year,

or at least you can try,

but someone will figure it out,

then soon everyone will know,

and things will never be the same.

You will be made an outcast,

but you'll get used to it,

and you will be alright.

Eventually, you'll accept it,

and ignore it,

it'll become your normal.

You aren't any less of a person,

although you may be treated that way,

it doesn't make you weak,

although you may feel that way,

it makes you different,

but sometimes different is good.

Maybe,

just maybe,

it could be a blessing,

a gift.

Maybe being put as an outcast,

isn't so bad at all.

Or so you'll think.

The author's comments:

Growing up a military kid, the biggest thing I learned was that making friends is hard. Kids are not welcoming. When they know that your plan is to just move in a few years anyway, they don't see the point in being friends with you. That isn't always a bad thing though. You just have to find the good in even the harshest ways.
