Mechanization
Cranking gears drive mechanical fingers,
Solving equations like a broken calculator,
Pencil scratching rhythmically on paper
As knowledge gets absorbed into the hard drive.
A rusted eyelid slips between open and closed.
Fuel comes as bioling hot coffee,
Swirling in its cup, black and shiny like oil.
The mechanical fingers tremble with caffine
And return to their perpetual task.
They are being tested tomorrow
On their ability to be a computer
So all through the night, books worth of knowledge is crammed
Into an empty, mechanical mind.
