Maybe He's Just Like That
"Do you see the way he looks at you?
He likes you," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way he smiles at you?
He laughs at all your jokes," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way he stares at you from across the room?
He never takes his eyes off," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way he looks up when you walk in?
He even fixes his hair," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way his face illuminates when you talk to him?
A golden hue outlines it," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way he makes fun of people when you're within earshot?
He wants you to notice him," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way he holds the door for you?
He doesn't do that to any other girls," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"Do you see the way his face becomes crimson when you talk to him?
It's so obvious," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
"How do you not see it?
You are so lucky," they said.
Maybe he's just like that.
And so, that's what I kept telling myself.
I refused to believe that the guy who meant the world to me
Actually felt the same way.
My heart had been shattered into shards
That sliced all my hopes
Too many times before,
And this time,
I wouldn't fall for it.
I would stay strong.
But, as time elapsed, all those things stopped.
Suddenly, I didn't feel as special to him
Or this universe.
Pretty soon, she became his universe.
"Do you see the way he looks at her?
He likes her," they said.
The only thought I could repeat to myself,
To keep my heart from being destroyed was
Maybe he's just like that.
