99¢ Highs n lows
Someday I will stop getting sad and buying honey buns and zebra cakes for 99¢
Some days when the weight of my immaterial problems feels too heavy
I decide to remedy it
By walking to the corner store
In my slippers
And coming back disappointed
In myself
I ignore everybody and pretend to be too occupied
For them, that makes them even more compelled to talk to me
Especially see me
I invite people over
And let them rig my 99¢ lighters
For fun
Sometimes they leave
With my stuff in their pockets
And my smoke
In their lungs
But they leave my spirit right where it's been
And at least… at least I wasn’t alone for one day...one day
I’ll like sleeping in a bed with someone else.
I walk 3 miles every night in those same 4 year old slippers
Anywhere
But i always end back at the corner store
I get a new lighter
“You good?”
“Yeah.”
Fake it till you make right?
“Yeah I’m good”
I’ll make it.
