A Changing Flame

Hate
Greed
Ignorance
Envy
All fuel for the fire
The fire that burned inside me for so long
Roaring inside me
It consumed me
Hollowed me
Corrupted me
But
One delicate little flame spoke its words
It showed me what the world had to offer
The beauty of nature
The elegance of art
The love man had to offer
The fire that had been inside me soon died
The fuel that sustained it quickly dying
And from the end of this fire
A phoenix arose
Where there had once been a corrupt, ignorant man
There was now a reborn, innocent child
I now see my misdeeds
And as I look back in horror
I am still optimistic
Because I know I’m ready to create a new life
A new flame

The author's comments:

After reading the novel Farenheit 451 I was asked to create a piece of poetry describing the main character's trandformation. Afterwards, I realized that this book can closely relate to man, so after some revisions I hope you enjoy!
