Divorce
I still suffer from the day
you both decided to part ways and
I still suffer from the day that
wife turned into ex-wife and
parenting turned into co-parenting.
I still suffer from the day you left for
your addiction, Mom.
And I still suffer from your emotionally
abusive words, Dad.
And although I am 17 now and no longer 1 when the words “We’re getting a divorce” ran through my ears.
I still suffer. Just harder.
Harder when you guys fight over the costs of taking care of a child like me and harder when you argue who will have me which holiday this year.
But even harder when I picture my future
And all I see is a broken family who couldn’t figure out how to love and
I still suffer.
