Down by the river

The little ones quiver

Awaiting their mothers

Their screams are smothered

As white men take

The black people break

As their land begins to quake

And their morals begin to shake

The white men scare

As they start to tear

The land they share

As they don't care

For the burden they bear

Still the white men scare

The Indigenous scream

As the Europeans dream,

Hearts are breaking at the seams

As the child they bear

Are their cause for dispair

But nor do they care

For what life has to bear

But still the white men scare

I was watching The Rabbit Proof Fence when I wrote this poem.
