Mixed Emotions
Adolescence is like golf.
That little white ball
Comes off of your club with a “clink”
My ears know if the sound is right
The ball is heading directly towards the flag.
A smile grows on my face
It’s the best feeling in the world
Feeling like Spieth or DJ
Little can bring me down
But my grin begins to fade
That little white ball is drifting too far right
Now I’m restraining: throwing of clubs
Resisting outbursts of words of curse
Of screaming, of shouting
Of letting all my emotions out
Adolescence is like golf, of course.
