She entered the school,
And hoped she could dare
to be accepted,
Was all her silent prayer

As she scanned the corridors
She saw so much of skin,
And sighed as she knew
It wouldn’t be so easy to fit in.

She adjusted her black cape
So that it now covered her like a shroud,
Hoping that she would now be
Able to blend into the crowd.

Alas, alas it wasn’t to be,
The girl with the different clothing,
Was surely going to be picked on, you see.

She raced to the bathroom
Eyes brimming with tears,
Slowly allowing her mind
To be consumed by her fears.

Why? Why is it so bad to be unique?
To uphold your religion
And faith to keep?

Is it life’s rule to show so much of skin?
Then surely she would never fit in.

A tiny hand lay on her shoulder,
And wiped away the tears
That had gone aboulder.

She said,
Never be demeaned by who you are,
Embrace it.
This is who you are,
Don’t allow anyone to erase it.

The girl gave a little laugh
It was as though the Messiah
Had given her,
The crippled girl a staff.

With courage anew
She stoop up tall,
Not allowing any fears
To remain at all.

She swung open the doors
And walked right out.
Not caring what anyone else
Thought about

She wondered,
Is it life’s rule to show so much of skin?
She laughed wrapping her hijab
Securely around her face
Then surely,
This was the biggest sin.
