Five Days and Expired
Alone, I sit on the bench drinking
my
five -day-expired
orange juice.
My hope is that the juice will
drown
my memories
Losing someone I hate, is no time to
Celebrate.
the juice did not drown
my memories.
It just gave them a means to float.

This piece was inspired by a bad day I had after learning some unfortunate news about someone who I had hated for my entire life. Later that day, I sat on a bench at school, alone, drinking a carton of orange juice I had found in my refrigerator that was expired by five days. While drinking the juice, I thought long and hard about how I should have reacted to the news and what that news meant for my future.
