Shaking Hands
Shaking hands.
A conflicted mind, that is all too clear
Staring motionlessly into a blank future
Imagining the eternal silence
Which seems welcoming after a lifetime of shouting
A mind constantly ripping itself apart,
Until the pain is so strong that it feels real
But knowing that it’s not
Which is almost worse because a wound you can treat but a mind is much more complicated
A convoluted enigma that has its key so well hidden not even the body that encases it can find the answers
A small scream stifled by the fear of discovery
Because the only thing worse than dealing with this alone
Is watching the faces of hose you love morph with disbelief when you try to explain
Society telling you that it’s not real,
But how can it not be when it’s all you feel
Conflicted and lost within a sea of people who claim that they love you,
But never seem to notice that you have slipped away from yourself
Being controlled by a puppet master pulling your strings closer to the end
You sit
You stare
Eyes glazed over
One final weight in your chest so heavy you collapse to the ground
A shaking breath
The sudden strength to move
Pain
Peace
A piercing scream
A tear streaked face mixing with the blood of another life lost
A moment of artificial caring
Before you are swept under the rug with the rest of things society is too afraid to confront
A moment of half-assed empathy, that came too late
Another victim of a faceless demon, wreaking havoc on too many lives
Exercised for the moment
Only to return stronger than before until it has claimed every life
While society’s back remains turned
Allowing another person’s hands to shake
