where I'm from
I am from cribbage tournaments
And swedish cousins, from
The Sound of Music
On late Christmas nights
Grandma would feed me my
Favorite foods until
My barbie nightgown no longer
Hung loose on my body
I am from 18 hour car rides to Florida
Filled with eye watering fumes
That were blamed on the dog
Playdates after school turned into
Eight hour shifts; eight hours of knives
Plunging into the bottom of my feet
I am from constant awareness
Passed down from my dad
Always trying to please everyone else
Losing myself in the process
