Silence

Silence
Some people see the beauty of it
Some people see the complex screaming of it
And some people fear what they don’t understand

Silence
The absence of sound
Is not an accurate representation of what goes on inside someone’s mind
Stiff on the outside could be cleverly masking a laugh
Or a tear

Silence
Your only friend when you log out of Facebook
Follows you
Everywhere
Even if you don’t retweet it

Silence
Isn’t always empty or harsh
Silence
Can be fear, or insecurity, or thoughts, or
Suspense, or questions, or beauty

Noise
Without any meaning behind it
Is just noise
A sound wave that makes our ears perk up
But leaves our hearts stagnant
A word that is only spoken to fill the silence
That is already overflowing
Noise is not intelligence
Just as someone who is often silent is not automatically
Stupid

Silence
Is safe
There is no fault in silence
But there is plenty of room for error in conversation
Conversation with silence
Conversation with yourself

Silence tells you it’s okay to come back and
Silence tells you you don’t need anyone or anything else
Silence tells you that opening your mouth is dangerous
And that speaking your mind is vulnerable
Silence tells you your secrets are safe
And your demons are locked up tight

But loose lips sink ships
Every time
And that paper key will crumble
Under the weight of my raindrop tears
And if my words are bullets and my mouth a gun
Pull the trigger and run
Silence tells you you aren’t worth listening to anyway

So when I cup my ears because my silence is deafening
Ignore it
And continue your noise
That just floats
Like my heart on its concrete sea
