D.A.R.E. MAG
I remember the innocence,
The adventures of being young,
The excitement in finding secrets of the world,
That only youth could hear and spread.
Every moment felt slower,
No hate in our hearts,
No love in our eyes,
For we were too young.
Tears ran down our face,
As we covered our scrapes with bandages,
Knowing everything would be alright.
Now the only wounds,
Pierce our heart and soul
With a blade made out of nostalgia,
And a poison of regret.
Infinite internal bleeding,
No bandage can stop this pain,
For once we learn to love and hate,
We learn to hurt.
Cold days followed by colder nights,
We inhale to feel worse by the exhale,
We swallow to feel the burn in our throat,
We were told again and again,
To resist.
But how can you,
When there’s no antibiotic for a broken heart.
Only numbing remedies,
Remedies that last hours on end,
And leave you sicker than before,
Not remembering last night,
And wishing you ONLY
Remembered last night.
We try our best to stop,
We try our best to block the feelings,
But nothing can be done,
Time is our only adhesive.
