Phototropism
The orientation of a plant or other organism in response to light.
Sunflowers wilt by the gravel,
press belled heads to knotted pavement.
Leaking nothing but still falling
stars moving over their cheeks,
the gasoline of passing cars in the gutters.
And fissures in the road, crackling,
beckoning them to the dirt.
But their heads still turned towards the sun,
even larger than these potholes,
these roads, the shifted
equilibrium of their petals.
Turning towards the light,
chasing the better days, the road trips
in summer starlight.
