I’m a five-year-old
With a big decision on my hands
What do I want for dinner?
What do I want on my sandwich?
No, these questions have always been easy
The hard question is
Which jelly bean to chose?
I have a snappy mother waiting behind me
Red apple, Bubble gum, Green apple and Lemon drop
All my favorites but mamma said one
So I pick Lemon drop
And skip away happily

I’m an eighteen-year-old
About to jump into college
But I have another decision on my hands
What college classes to take?
Will I find love?
No, these questions have no value to me
My dilemma is which jelly bean to chose?
Momma is not behind me anymore
So I take my time
Strawberry cheese cake, Butter popcorn, Kiwi and Lemon drop
So I smirk and pick Lemon drop
And walk away smiling

I’m twenty seven years old
With a child of my own
Now, she has a decision to make
What will school be like?
Will I make friends?
In her eyes I see these question hold no value to her
Which jelly bean? Is what her eyes are yelling
She taking quiet a long time
I now understand why my mother’s was so impatient
But I wait
Cinnamon, Cotton candy, French vanilla and Lemon drop
And surprise, surprise she picks Lemon drop
A smile on my face and a smile on hers
We walk away happily
