Peaceful Waves
I see my reflection in the clean glass window,
The waves crashing down
In the background.
They look calm now,
It looks as it once was
Peaceful.
You were blindsided
By a wave.
I saw it coming.
A roaring tsunami
Captivating lives and anything in its wake.
And you
Didn’t see it coming.
The wave engulfs you,
And you drowned of sorrow.
It takes you down deeper,
And deeper.
I watch helplessly on shore
As the very same wave,
Surges through my toes,
And hits the sand beyond me.
The wave becomes distant,
Back into the ocean.
Faded in the memory
Of what I could have warned you,
And now I’m left to fix the ruins.
Of what once was
A peaceful wave.

I originally wrote this about my friends break-up, but after revisions I realized it could relate to so much more. Abuse, death, anything that could hurt you.
