What is this meat?
The sun sets. Shades of orange reflect off the still, Maya River.
A food court awaits with mystery.
What is this slab of meat?
  I observe and poke.
  My father and cousin chuckle.
I put more meat in my mouth, unwilling to take defeat.
What is this slab of meat?
  At first munch, I smirk.
My brother stands white as paper.
  “How's the Iguana taste, sir?”
I panic! Hold back a tear. And stare at the street.
  “That’s some good meat.”
They can’t win this one, I think.
  I’m not done.
But there’s no alternative to eating.
  I ask for another piece.
  Food, one of life's necessities.
Food creates memories and ceases mysteries.
The memory made is as beautiful as the shades of orange reflecting of the Maya River.
