A THUD
In the deep dark forest there is a thud,
A tree falls,
The ground bounces back up,
Relieving the tree from its duty.
After a thud like that
The forest is quite,
Except for the gush of wind that did the deed,
Swaying the tops of trees back and forth
Until they give in also,
Letting their roots be stretched
After they find a new role on the forest floor.
Once theses trees were little
Fighting for light under the tops of their mothers,
But now they are the nursery for the new children,
And create a new patch of light.
