Thinking of You
Whether it is midnight or midday
The sun is shining or the moon is glowing
And if the stars are twinkling and the planets are rotating the sun
Whether you are thinking of me or not
I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking of the little things you did
The way you smiled at your friends
And your need to explain everything to me
Or how you would look at me as if I was the moon,
Or the most beautiful creature the earth could ever contain
And I would ask you,
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
You would just shake your head
And close your eyes that I could so easily get lost in
For days if I was not careful
And when you would look at me with that look
As if I was the moon
Or the most beautiful creature the earth could ever contain
You would respond,
“Nothing,”
It wasn’t a real response, you know
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Nothing.”
But I never thought much of it
I’m thinking of the details in the way you looked at me
The way you looked at me with your brown eyes’ beauty
As if I was the moon
Or the most beautiful creature the earth could ever contain
The way you looked at me as if I would live to be the most special woman to walk this earth
It’s midnight
The moon is glowing
The stars are twinkling and the planets are rotating the sun
And I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking of the way you saw me at the festival
Your little brother was with you
And you did a double take on me
Your jaw dropped and you started to smile
We haven’t seen each other in months
But at least you remember me
I’m thinking of the way you asked me to walk around the festival
Beside you, of course
It’s midday
The sun is shinning
Whether you are thinking of me or not,
I’m thinking of you
I’m thinking,
Specifically,
Of the time I found out about her
“Hey, I just wanted to let you know,
He has a girlfriend.”
My phone informed me
My heart cracked into two clean pieces
The edges pierced my lungs
And I can’t breathe
Or maybe thinking of you as
Mine
Was what provided me oxygen
I’m thinking of the way
You’re probably not thinking of me
I’m thinking of the way you’re looking at her
As if she is the moon
Hung the moon,
Is every star,
Is brighter than every star
Or as if she is the most beautiful creature the earth could ever contain
And I can’t breathe
And I can’t stop thinking of you
And I can’t stop thinking of the way you’re not thinking of me
And I can’t stop my now fragile heart
From being tormented
Every time I think of you
Thinking of her
And it’s been days, months, years
And I’m still lost in your brown eyes’ beauty
And I can’t stop thinking of you

This piece was inspired by a boy I met when I was younger. He made me feel special, as if I was "the most beautiful creature the earth could ever contain." He saw me as me, not as what everybody esle saw me as. When I learned he had a girlfriend, I was devasted for months. Just like any other teenager, I thought I found love to last a lifetime. This piece is for every person that has ever been in love and devasted at the thought of someone else being loved by the person of your dreams, the person that made you feel special, the person you can't stop thinking about.
