Long-Lasting Love
My mother married my father
before I was born.
She was marrying the love of her life
The two were soulmates,
they knew of it.
It was love at first sight.
Oh, the love.
They met in the beaming city lights
of New Orleans,
where love dances on one’s shoulder.
Where jazz music is heard from every rooftop, every balcony.
Where the smell of old beer, and
the taste of the fresh gumbo comes from every restaurant.
They were inseparable.
Oh, the love.
Their love was a tragedy.
It was a rocky road.
The definition of tough love.
Oh, the love.
They have been through it all.
All of the disagreements,
the drama,
the heartbreaks.
But in the end, the love is never lost.
Oh, the love.
