Trees
Wind pulls through the green leaves
Of the massive oak trees
Cars trample down
The lush green grass
A few flat rocks
Form a small walkway
The screen door opens to the porch
Of the tiny blue cottage
That stands on stacked cinder blocks
When the rain beats down it protects us
As do the trees that loom over it
I see two little girls sitting under
The mighty oak tree
Giggling and throwing grass
When the skies opened up
We crawled into the bottom bunk
Telling each other stories
Sneaking food in
And crumbs cascading onto the sheets
The screen door slams
And I am brought back
We haven't spoken in years
I stroll by you in the hall at school
Our eyes don’t meet
We rotted away slowly
Pieces being eaten away
Until just a ragged stump remains
