Your personality is strong
like a boxer who trains ten times a day
It could lift the Titanic from the depths
But we aren’t alike in the slightest….anymore

Do you remember when you would wake up for
school and look forward to a day of learning?
Do you remember all of your aspirations?
Do you remember how you knew exactly what you
wanted from life?
There you sat, eyes wide, ears open, mesmerized by your
teacher’s loud and clear words; a hypnotist’s victim
You were awfully positive and couldn’t break a rule
It’s almost as if you were imitating an addition sign
You felt warmer than steam rising from a skillet
You were sweeter than apple pie with cream tastes

In more recent days, your confidence has grown
like a sweet smelling orchid located in an
environment overpopulated with bees

Despite this growth, there are traits of mine
that I know you wish you could’ve kept
Your assurance has fallen at a rapid pace like
the stocks of America during the Great Depression
You second guess every little detail;
a paranoid hospital patient in a straitjacket
Going back in time would be nice, but
what would it change?
You’re still a bit timid and sometimes you want it all
to end, but I won’t allow that
Don’t give up on your dreams or live in the past
Live for now
