Ode to Me - Fanta Kouyate
when they look at me
they see nappy locs
a fat belly
a flat a**
with skin too dark
and a nose too wide
yet when I look into my mirror
my eyes fall on
ample curves
supple lips
voluptuous breast
and the sweetest of chocolate skin
I gaze upon unparalleled beauty
aesthetically pleasing and alluring
buxom and bewitching
the absolute zenith of feminine splendor
a goddess
needing not the aid of powder nor cloth
not callipygian
but fat a**es are a fad
a little heavy
but curves are womanly
especially the ones that
don't require an injection
I'm well aware
that I'm supposed to
straighten my nappy hair
count my calories
buy a waist trainer
be ashamed of my excess melanin
and contour before I leave the house
sometimes I think
maybe I'm wrong
maybe I really am ugly
then I walk past my mirror
and spy that ebony angel
strolling past once more
I wish everyone had a mirror like mine.

I just want everyone to feel the same way I do when they look in the mirror.
