You Left Your Mark
They say,
"You won't
be remembered
if you don't
leave your mark,"
and I guess
that's true
in some way
or fashion
because
he left
bruised eyes,
broken teeth,
and cracked ribs.
His marks of
forged love
and lust.
His marks of
pure rage
and hate.
Marks that
never fully
healed.
But you-
you healed them.
Fixed them.
With bruises
of your own.
Always bruises.
Bruises of
the neck
and chest.
Long nights
of ecstasy
and love bites.
So,
I guess
it's true
when they say,
"You won't
be remembered
if you don't
leave your mark,"
because
he left me
broken
and you
left me
fixed.

Having one of my best friends be in an abusive realtionship a few years ago to now being in a happy engagement with someone else gave me hope. Him and his current partner were the reason for this piece. They showed me that there are always brighter days.
