H+O+ME= Home
Home is like a math equation.
Add wifi and friendliness
both things that invite me in.
Wifi welcomes me with joy
like a marathon runner
reaching a finish line.
Friendliness given by my family,
like when they let me choose what movie to watch,
puts a smile on my face.
Multiply the love,
given by my hamster, named Mooshi, and family.
My hamster white, gray, cuddly, and
fuzzy like when you touch a peach.
My family that has my back and defend me in any arguments.
Jahaziel, my brother, with his loud thundering voice.
My mom with her sweet smell of cherry perfume.
My dad with his bushy mustache.
I know they are there for me.
I can count on them to cheer me up
when I’m down, lose a game, or lose a friend.
For a nice home subtract the sorrows.
Like when my other hamster, Tron, died.
I came home to an empty cage with his wheel unmoving.
No one likes a home where there's only bad news,
it piles on and on and it’s a lot to handle.
Sometimes it's necessary
to release
the sorrows
and make
home
more
pleasing.
I have to divide the emotions
with family and friends that I love.
Divide sadness and the salty tears
that run down my face.
So I don’t deal with it all on my own.
Divide happiness and jokes,
so everyone is happy
and laughter fills my ears.
All of this and kindness, safety, and love together equals my home.
My home is a complex equation
that requires more math than this, but
makes you feel nice
when you have figured
out the answer.
