My Place

Pulling up to the hotel with a smile,
the glaring white snow steals
my vision from me, sleep is stolen
from the soft, smooth seat

Hiding out in a mediocre hotel room,
getting up at 8am just to
beating the crowd into the pool,
staying up until whenever

One time going out,
the chill of the wind,
feeling it touch your wet, smooth skin,
throwing a jacket on and jumping into the frozen seats of the car

Driving until they stop and drag you out of
the warmth of the newly heated car, seeing
what you see, realizing you almost missed it
and you snap a picture of the cold frozen falls

Darting towards the warmth of the hotel,
you lose your step and slide towards the
door, staying still you don’t move an inch,
in the fear of falling on your stone cold face

Skating into the heat of the water, letting it
slide down your face, you smile in delight
because of the 20 degree weather that has
plagued the town of 170,000 people

This is Sioux Falls, this is my home and
where my heart lies, this is where the people
I care most and miss reside in
It’s home

wrote this poem with my family in mind. When our teacher asked us to find a great place, my mind went one place. Then it just kinda came out. I thought about what I did when I'm there and it kinda just got put together.
