Forever
Do you ever feel despair
noticing the deep wrinkles at the corners
of your mother’s eyes
when she smiles?
I look at her chopping onions in the kitchen
or folding laundry
and I feel dispirited
because I know there will come a day
when the angels will redeem her
and I pray to god
that day will never come.
Do you ever look at your mom
doing simple things
and wish she could live forever?
