Rope Swing
My bare feet squished against the layer of mud
As I trudged my way up the steep incline
I reached for a sturdy trunk or an unearthed root
That I could use to heave myself to the top
A feeling of relief fell over me
Once I stood on the summit looking down at the vast lake
I became nervous, realizing the breadth of my climb
Knowing there was only one way back down
I grasped the thin handle of a lengthy rope
That spanned from the branch of a towering tree
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath
As soon as my feet lost contact with the earth
I began to accelerate forward.
At the apex of my swing, I released the handle
I felt motionless for a mere second
Then started barreling towards the water
I braced myself for impact
