The C-Word
Shh don’t say that,
Everyone gasps as his bell is rung
Instantaneously a fog of fear covers the area
No one says a word.
Everyone goes down without a sound,
Pads start to move, and the dazed player sits up,
Step by step he makes his way off the field,
The snaps keep coming
The game keeps rolling
The jock sits there telling everyone he is fine.
They let him play,
Play after play the game goes on,
Helmets smashing
He makes the last score
A five second hero.
He goes home that night,
Starts to feel the aches and pains,
The throbbing starts to overwhelm his head,
Lights burn his eyes.
He doesn’t tell a soul.
Next day he runs through his drills,
Coach asks how he feeling,
“Great Coach.”
