First Pair Of Shoes
The first pair of shoes
are a sight to behold.
Shining black leather
and laces tied in a bow.
Just as you get your new bike
You were probably five or so,
You ran outside
To try it out for size.
But fell down
as soon as you tried.
It takes a long time,
Blood, sweat and tears.
You keep falling and falling
But you have to stand back up.
But the first time you get your
Training wheels off,
It's a feeling indescribable,
I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Except, maybe
For that very first time
I perfected a solo.
I had been practicing for months.
And couldn't wait to show all my friends.
Just as you fly down a hill,
With the breeze flowing past you.
Like soaring through the air,
With all of your best friends.
Your parents are always there
Cheering you on.
Whether it be dancing
In the Marcus Theater,
To simply riding
A bike.

This poem is loosely comparing my first pair of dance shoes to my first time riding a bike.
