If Only
If only I could forgive you,
For leaving mom and I.
For deciding we weren’t good enough,
But drugs and your friends were.
I wish I could forgive you,
For making my mom lie to me and say you didn’t exist.
For being in jail when I found out,
And then going back months after getting out.
Not being there for my birth,
Or any of my birthdays.
If only I could forgive you,
For caring more about your other children,
And leaving me in the dust.
I wish I could forgive you father,
For all the times you lied and told me you would try harder,
For making me wonder why I wasn’t good enough for you.
But you made your decisions,
And I will make mine.
