Strep Throat

The horrific puddle of strep throat perceived as a chance to rest,

awaits for someone to lay down and try and fall asleep.
You stroll through your bedroom door
and flop down onto your king size bed.
You stroke the cloud-like blankets and feel the warmth
radiating from it like summer sunshine warming your body,
hoping this will be a good night sleep.
Then you become ill with strep throat.
Now there is no way to get a restful night of sleep.
Strep throat awoke the victim's brain while they tried to sleep.
Every day it probes the air for someone new to contaminate.
Strep becomes the reason why everyone is always as tired as a doormat.
Your body treads to bed each night bearing the pain of your throat, head, and body.
Your throat feels like it is on fire,
your head pounds like a stampede of rhinos,
every beat seems like it is pulsing harder and harder in your head.
The sleep we know now is less than a minute’s rest.
Strep throat is like a hive full of bees buzzing around like an alarm clock,
awaiting the moment to sting you awake from your slumber.
Strep throat leaves your head and throat feeling scratchy and sore.
The storm of strep throat keeps all who fall into it awake.
Boom.
Crash.
Creak.
Any slight sound or shift will keep you awake.
Blankets on.
?
Blankets off.
?
Nothing is comfortable.
Cough.
Blow your nose until it stops blaring like a trumpet.
You will be kept awake until you cease to exist.
