the day the universe won you
the rain came gushing down in sheets
so sharp they could slice right through
the meaningless illusion of tranquility
the morning mist now failed to provide
the interruption of peace was satisfying
in the way that the morning dew was not simply existing
no longer was it resting atop the greenery like something from a postcard
for the dew was melting off with violent sweeps of water
the rain crashed down harder and faster as if god were a percussionist
and the earth served as his grand instrument
the melodic tempo of the millions of droplets resonated within every living being
every piercing strike was embedded into a collective memory
never to be forgotten
for it was a day comparable to no other
the skies cried out desperately and god played his piece
as you parted from this life and this flesh and this world
they said the stars had never been so radiant in their display
the universe was set ablaze with the spark of your presence
an overwhelming brilliance radiated off every single heavenly body in the cosmos
the sky was anything but the familiar black abyss we had come to fear
the expansive collection of shimmering specks of light showed that night was no longer night
the mask of horrors that was so often associated with the setting of the sun was removed
dissipating into the corners of the universe the demons were finally reduced to nothing
the looming darkness that accompanied late hours no longer made its presence
for the sky was glowing with a warmth and peace that only you could ever bring
