The Moonless Night

Crystallized air formed
Around the cracked lips
Of the old hag as she chanted
Her spell.

Her cauldron bubbled and foamed
With evil and despair
Tonight she would
Summons her demons
While racing the moon.

With a pinch of this
And a fist of that
It was time.

Time for her
To use her concoctions
Time for her to dominate
the light  world.

One last ingredient was placed
In the boiling potion
With a flash the fire’s hand
Climbed into
The moonless night.

Her cackle echoed along
The skeleton covered hills
As her soldiers prepared for
Their descension upon
The unknown.

One by one
Spirits circulated
Around
Soaking in the evil
air.

The witch howled
Into the night
And the spirits
Swirled
The cauldron.

Her potion had finally
Reached perfection.

One small drip
Fell upon the
Blanketed leaf ground

The earth exploded with
A tremendous jolt.

The spirits whirled
Joining the blaze.

Spirits became
Beautiful fireworks
Erupting into the
Vacant sky.

The old hag celebrated
In her triumph.
She had finally
Conquered the world.

After a long night
She had tired
Her final request had
Been granted and she
Finally gained her trophy.

She laid her
Crumpled hat upon
The cracked stump
While her broom rested
By the door.
Her heavy weighted eyes
Shut tightly
Dreaming of her revenge.
