At The Age of 23
Lately it's hard to think about the person she used to be;
Her heart was pure and her mind was free.
She loks in the mirror and hates the person she see's,
She wonders what she'll be like at the age of 23.
Her mind runs wild.
No, she never was the perfect child.
And she still see's him in her sleep,
And every time she hears his voice, it gets harder to breathe.
He made her feel so weak.
To the point it became hard for her to speak.
He used to point and laugh at her week after week.
But yet, something about his smile made her weak.
She still remembers the day he told her to take her own life.
And the days he would say, "and one day I hope you'll be my wife.
Along with the days he would say she ruined his life.
Which left her wondering if it'd stay the same even if she was his wife.
He made fun of her eating problem,
Though that was nothing new.
Realizing she was never the problem,
And finally built up the courage to say,
"The problam was always you."
3 long years, and it's finally over.
Though the days are still long, and the nights even colder.
Each day they both learn and grown older.
She has come to her senses, and the cycle is finally over.
Lately it's hard to think about the person she used to be.
Her mind was lost, and now she's free.
She looks into the mirror and accepts the person she see's.
She knows she'll do better at the age of 23.
And that person she plans to be,
No matter how bright her future may be;
Is going to look back and see,
How strong she was at the age of fifteen.

This poem happens to be about my experiences in an abusive relationship that i have dedicated 3 long years of my life for. But I grew up and realized what was actually taking place and put a stop to it. Now I am doing better and a lot happier. I hope this helps others recognize an abusive relationship on the spot and never have to go through the same thing I did.
