"A book is a frigate."
Emily Dickinson

She slips unnoticed to the confines of her quarters, in the chamber of dismal dreams she sleeps, her crystal eyes closing, her life so bleak.

Quiet shadows fill the room, their eyes dripping with hatred, their mouths pursed in resentment. They watch her carefully for signs of stirring, they whisper and cackle, evil hearts burning.

They stroke her golden, lovely hair, into her unopened eyes do they peer, as if they can see her soul, they offer a blank stare.

Suddenly the girl starts to rouse, the shadows flee at the sound, as her beautiful voice echos in the empty, she calls the names of her family.

For she is alone, prodded by dark, stolen by shadow, yet favored by lark. She is quite fair though wallows in her despair at being stolen from life.

In her tower does she sit, peering out a foggy window, watching as life happens.

She is the Lady Broken in the Land of Despair, and though is hurting, she is quite fair.
