Wanderlust
I squeeze through the slim opening
looking atop as I enter.
Birds chirping above me,
baby crabs crawling below.
Carefully stepping onto wet, mossy rocks
making my way towards the Ocean’s Gate.
Reaching the end
I stand perched on a rock
hands ascending towards the clouds,
grasping for adventure,
longing to explore.
Time stops,
the cave consumes me
while I indulge in the salty sea air.
Shaking the sand from my curls,
listening to the waves crash onto shore,
feeling the ocean breeze caress my skin,
tasting the sweet salt on my lips,
admiring the scenery for one final moment.
Stepping back into reality.

This piece was inspired by a trip I took to La Jolla, California over the summer. I was at La Jolla Cove and I had the opportunity to explore sea caves. It was an amazing, breathtaking experience I wish I could relive over and over again.
