On The Way Home
I was beginning to learn…
I led him,
He was still holding my hand, no sign of letting me go,
I led him home.
We stood there hugging,
Watching,
Waiting,
Hoping.
I wondered how many times I had made this journey in my life.
His fingers gently released my hand,
I never saw him again.
Broken,
I turned to go.
I never could see beyond us.
I could only see his woes and triumphs.
You never really know a man…
I made my way home.
Adapted from Harper Lee’s novel To Kill A Mockingbird
