The Mind of a Straight-A Student
A: Most would be celebrating as your mind wanders,
Did you earn it?
B: You were so close to reaching an acceptable grade.
Better try harder next time.
C: Finally average.
You fit right in with the crowd.
You will not make it in this world being like everyone else.
D: It seems as though you are spiraling downward.
You wonder what has gone wrong.
F: Nothing else describes you more.
Failure.
What happened to that A?

This poem was written when I was struggling with grades. I wasn't really struggling in anyone else's eyes, so I felt like no one knew how I was feeling. Writing this poem helped me to really evaluate my feelings on our grading system and how to think positively about less than perfect grades. I want people to know that their struggles are important, even if everyone else believes you are doing fine.
