Favorite Quote:
There is freedom waiting for you
on the breezes of the sky,
and you ask “What if I fall?”
Oh, but my darling,
what if you fly?

~Eric Hanson

He crushes the stars in his hand.

He's never been spiritual or superstitious

and this is as close as he'll ever come

to making a wish.

His daughter would've said the moon

looked as though it could swallow them whole tonight.

But she is not there to say it,

so it does.

He spits curses into the sky

and hopes,

only hopes,

that she will turn out

better than he did.

This is a powerful poem revealing the desires of a father that even "crushes the stars in his hand," a father that's hinted to be abusive or too overbearing.
