This Is Their Voice
A home a million miles away with an ‘ancient’ stereo
Playing a cassette with 90’s songs and a tv showing
Faded videos with blurred colors as
Rough, callused hands open a door
That hold polaroids and 3 feet tall portraits
And that cook dinner with flavors from far away
Which arise laughing, tired voices around a table
Talking of their day of walking through tile floors
Down bright hospital halls and driving a Honda Civic through the night
To curl up on the couch and catch up on cheesy soap operas on at 7 pm
Or flip through fuzzy pictures taken with disposable cameras
Of snow days filled with pleasant surprises and summer vacations
Where the sunglasses held stories of their own
Stories like sharing beds on road trips long gone
With the car stereo blasting old 90’s hits
The memories I have of you both, make your voices come alive
