Coffee
You were bitter.
No matter how you tried
To disguise your acidic aftertaste
You always left my tongue
Craving sweetness and
Screaming for water.
Dark, leagues deeper than
The frothy foam
On which I floated
You wielded tremendous power
To which I saw no end.
You hit my bloodstream
And within seconds
I was reborn, emerging
A charming and cherubic creature
With charred and clumsy wings.
Too much of you
And my veins would coil in
My hands quiver like dead leaves.
Too little of you
And my eyes would lose focus
My head fill with wet chalk.
I finally gave you up
After you left a stain
On my favorite shirt.
