Rooftop

A lonely rooftop

Yet I am surrounded,

I am surrounded by silence

and the night sky.

A galaxy far away

I know

But on this night

It hovers over me like

a blanket made out of

silk.

Covering me and drowning

me with it's inescapable

comfort.

And it is in that moment, I notice:

I am not alone.

The universe has become

my blanket

I glance at my phone that now reads

3 am

and I am aware: my blanket

won't last much longer

But, just then,

a wave of nostalgia and satisfaction

washes over me,

and nothing else matters.

I am happy.

The author's comments:

This poem represents the making of a great memory and how you never want it to end, but at the same time, you are aware that it is going to, and the fact that you are aware of that pushes you to savor it and make it more memorable. The feeling of euphoria is present and everything seems right with the world. Whatever you had been holding onto for too long melts away, and at the same time, a piece of you that needed to be fixed, works its way to the surface.
