The Rain Last Year
The first rain of the season,
Fell from the skies today.
The moistened ground dissipated,
The familiar soothing smell.
All the things rejoiced,
Just like last year’s showers.
The cool wind grew excited,
And all the things fluttered in joy.
The tiny raindrops kissing the earth,
Gradually turned into a trample of horses.
The clouds began their music again,
Just like last year’s rain.
The chirpy birds became elated,
As drops of water embraced their feathers.
Branches of trees swayed in delight,
And all the things began to hum to the song.
The sky came down to caress the flowers,
Just like last year’s showers.
But my hair wasn’t wet this time,
And my feet weren’t splashing in puddles outside.
I can’t figure out why so unlikely,
The music seemed no magic to me.
I just kept staring from the window pane,
Unlike last year’s rain.
