The Gamble
Aged Eyes
In a pit of nothing, I danced and twirled
And watched a God create the world.
Across the years, I saw it grow
I felt the sun, the rain, the snow.
I saw first man, I saw first breath,
I wept and felt the cold of death.
Mistakes were made, I witnessed wars,
Greed, corruption, man’s many flaws.
Despite the good, despite some love,
I never felt like it was enough
And even though I watched first hand,
I wondered if there was ever a plan.
In a world of such great pain and hate
I find it hard to believe in fate.
I’ve stood and watched for countless years,
Seen too much hurt, shed too many tears.
You say with me all wounds can heal,
But as old as can be, still, I feel.
And each new day, is a gift, from me,
That’s why it’s the present, unwrap it, act free.
I was there, when you opened your eyes,
I’ll be there when you reach your demise,
And I’ll be young, still in my prime,
You’ll ask “Who?”, I’m father time.
