More often than not, High school is not about education.

Somewhere along the way it gets lost in translation.
Lost in the fads and the phones and the fashion.
Clouded by the posts and the pictures and the captions.
Gets entangled in the law, telling lies, sleeping late.
Caught in the drama and the gossip and the hate.
The subject of High school seems up to debate.

The classes in school seem to be useless.
Struggle through the nights but the efforts are fruitless,
If at the end of the tests the results aren’t an A,
We still rise at dawn every single day

Benchmarks, finals, essays, test grades.
Sat, Act, ADD, pay attention, listen to me,
Homework, study, study, dinner shower, bed,
Wake up the next day and cram more stuff into your head.
“High school has nothing to do with gaining knowledge,
It’s only about the grades to get you into college”

But  high school is not about education.

High school is about learning.
It’s about how we wake up in the morning,
And go to school to be a better person,
with the hope to somehow come home a better version.

But that is what is missing.
The things in school seem insignificant,
But in Education and learning there is a difference
We are all taught the same, but what we learn is different.

We live our lives in expectations,
Forget the basics, and lost our patience.
We succeed, or underachieve with no inbetween.
We focus on the work and forget how to dream.

Sometimes I think about the future and about who I will be.
I can be a straight A student but what about the rest of me.
The the value of myself cannot be found by testing me.
High school may change who I am but does not control my destiny

The author's comments:

As a Junior in high school, I see my peers struggling under the wieght of all the stresses of school like grades, tests, college, as well as just the social pressures. I too find myself under this presssure, but I just felt like I had to say that high school is just a small part of our lives, and that reagrdless of all the expecations, we should all be able to remember high school as some of the best years of our lives.
