Fire and Fear
My mind seems stuck in the thought that
my embers will blow out
my warmth taken into the wind
lights out
and time will go on as it has before
without me.
All this in my head
as people point out the raw roaring flames surrounding me
and I know that I too am a truly full fire
ready to burn through this night
heat still to last a lifetime
like the center of the earth
the silent force that is known yet never seen
and I know
that is me
that was me
that could be me once again.
But my frozen head
Solid like a rock that you could bash against another to create
a spark
but ice can’t make fire
I could be the forceful roaring flames ready to last through this life
but this cold stiff body
frozen to the marrow
sees only its ashes
